Instagram Coasters

All the finished Instagram coasters!

All the finished Instagram coasters!

I’m not a crafter. I’m not on Pinterest. But after reading an article in September about people turning their Instagrams into craft projects to display in real-life, instead of just on their iPhones, I was intrigued. My two best friends love Instagram. Well, love might be an understatement. They’re straight-up pros. Connor even started our Instagram account at Team USA that amassed over 80,000 followers in a week. Everything they post looks great. Meanwhile, I didn’t even know how to use it before meeting those two. True story.

I knew Instagram coasters would be the perfect Christmas presents for everyone on my list. The materials were easy to find and it was a craft project I might actually be able to tackle. The hard part, I soon realized, was going through each of their accounts and figuring out which pictures I would possibly choose to use! There were way too many good ones.

So a few weekends ago, I holed up in my basement and set to work. After printing all the pictures, I modge-podged them to 4×4 ceramic tiles, modge-podged them with a few more coats, let them dry, and then sprayed them with an acrylic sealer to waterproof them. It took most of the day, but they looked awesome and were definitely the coolest coasters.

I know coasters probably aren’t the coolest Christmas gift ever, but they’re definitely unique. No matter where you move to or where you’re living, you’ll have your own coasters to take with you. And most importantly, I made them all by myself! And I’m totally not any good at any of that DIY stuff! So let’s just hope they actually work…
